Cruelty-Free Commitment
Cruelty-Free & No Animal Testing Policy
Purely Equines: Equine, Dog, Cat, Home, Yard & Barn Products
Purely Equines · Version 1.1 · Effective 01 January 2026
1. Purpose and commitment
Purely Equines does not test its finished products or ingredients on animals and does not ask or pay
anyone else to do so on its behalf. This applies to the horses, dogs and cats our products are made for,
and to, every other species.
We make products to improve the health, comfort and wellbeing of animals and the places they live,
from the barn and paddock to the yard and the home. Harming any animal to develop or prove those
products contradicts that purpose.
2. Scope
This policy covers every product sold under the Purely Equines brand, in every product line:

dressings, fly sprays, grooming and coat care

It does not cover veterinary diagnosis or treatment of an individual animal, which is described in Section
5.

Term Meaning in this policy
Animal testing Any procedure on a live animal to assess a product's or ingredient's safety,
efficacy or tolerance, where the animal may experience pain, distress,
harm or deprivation beyond normal good care. Includes skin and eye
irritation tests, toxicity dosing, overdose and tolerance studies, and
induced-injury or induced-illness models.
Target animal The animal product is made for: horses (including ponies, donkeys and
mules), dogs or cats.
Non-target animal Any animal used as a stand-in test subject for a product not made for it,
such as rodents, rabbits or fish. For home, yard and barn products, every
animal is a non-target animal.
Welfare-positive use
trial
Observation of a finished product used as labeled, at the labeled amount,
by owners or caretakers during an animal's normal care at home, in the
barn or in the yard, with no procedure that would not otherwise happen.
Supplier Any third party that makes, supplies, formulates or tests a product or
ingredient for us.
4. Core commitments
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. We do not conduct, commission or fund animal testing on finished products, at any stage.
We do not conduct, commission or fund animal testing on ingredients, and we only buy
ingredients that have not been tested on animals by or for the supplier after the fixed cut-off
date of [DD Month YYYY].
We do not test on horses, dogs or cats. No animal is dosed beyond the labeled amount, kept in a
lab setting, deliberately injured, made ill or exposed to an irritant to evaluate our products.
We do not use non-target animals as a substitute, including for home, yard and barn products.
We establish safety through non-animal methods: ingredient history of safe use, published
scientific literature, in vitro and in chemico assays, computational (in silico) assessment, and
stability and contaminant testing of the product itself.
Home, yard and barn products used around animals are formulated with ingredients that have
an established record of safe use near horses, dogs and cats, and carry clear label directions for
use around them.
We do not sell products in any market where the law requires animal testing of that product,
unless the requirement is met without new testing (see Section 7).
Purely Equines · Cruelty-Free & No Animal Testing Policy · Page 25. What is permitted: use trials and veterinary care
Because many of our customers are animals, we may learn how a finished product performs in real use.
This is allowed only as a welfare-positive use trial, and only when every condition below is met:
• The product has already been assessed as safe for the target animal by non-animal methods
• It is used exactly as labeled, at or below the labeled amount and frequency
• Horses, dogs and cats stay in their normal home, barn or yard under their usual owner or
caretaker
• The owner gives written, informed consent and may stop at any time without penalty
• Observation is limited to what happens in normal care: coat, skin, hoof or paw condition,
appetite, behavior, owner feedback, or samples a veterinarian takes anyway for the animal's
own care
• Any adverse sign ends that animal's participation immediately, and we cover any resulting
veterinary cost
• No animal is bought, bred, housed or kept for the purpose of the trial
Home, yard and barn products are evaluated on surfaces, materials and in-use performance, never on
animals.
Veterinary care is separate. A veterinarian diagnosing or treating an individual animal for its own
benefit is not animal testing, even if one of our products is part of that care.
6. Supplier and ingredient requirements
Every supplier must sign a cruelty-free declaration before we place a first order, and renew it every 12
months. The declaration confirms that the supplier:
• Has not tested the ingredient or product on animals, and has not had it tested, after our cut-off
date
• Will not do so in future, for us or for any other customer, for the same material
• Will tell us within 30 days of any change, including a new regulatory demand for animal data
• Will apply the same requirement to its own sub-suppliers
We will not knowingly buy from a supplier that tests the same ingredient on animals for other
customers. Where an ingredient is animal-derived (for example lanolin, beeswax, gelatin or fish oil), it
must be a by-product obtained without harm to the source animal, and we name it on the label.
7. Regulatory requirements and markets
Some product categories can require animal data by law:
• Animal drugs: approved veterinary drugs for horses, dogs and cats (in the US, regulated by the
FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine) can require target-animal safety studies
Purely Equines · Cruelty-Free & No Animal Testing Policy · Page 3• Feed additives: some new feed additives (in the EU, authorized through EFSA) can require
target-species tolerance studies
• Pesticides: fly, flea, tick and other pest-control products, including those for barn, yard and
home use, generally require EPA registration in the US, which relies on animal toxicity data.
Products that qualify as minimum-risk pesticides under FIFRA section 25(b) are exempt from
registration
• Disinfectants: cleaners that claim to kill germs are also regulated as pesticides in the US
Our response:
• We do not develop or sell products that need new animal studies to reach the market
• Our pest-control products are formulated as minimum-risk products under FIFRA 25(b), and our
cleaners make no germ-killing claims that would need registration
• Where a regulator accepts existing data, published literature or a history of safe use, we rely on
that instead
• If a regulator demands new animal testing of a product we already sell, we withdraw that
product from that market rather than test
• We will publicly disclose any case where this policy could not be met, and the action we took
Open question: list the markets Purely Equines sells into, confirm none requires animal testing for our
current range, and confirm each pest-control and cleaning product's regulatory status.

Purely Equines · Cruelty-Free & No Animal Testing Policy · Page 49. Labeling and marketing claims
We may describe a product as "cruelty-free" or "not tested on animals" only when it meets every part of
this policy and its ingredient file is complete.
• We do not use "vegan" unless the product contains no animal-derived ingredients at all
• We do not display a third-party cruelty-free logo unless we hold a current certification from that
organization
• Efficacy claims rest on non-animal evidence or welfare-positive use trials, and we say which
• Home, yard and barn products state clearly whether and how they may be used around horses,
dogs and cats
• We do not imply that other brands test on animals
10. Non-compliance, review and contact
If a supplier breaches this policy, we stop orders for the affected material, remove any affected product
from sale until it can be reformulated, and end the relationship if the breach is not corrected within 60
days. A deliberate breach ends the relationship immediately.
Anyone, including staff, suppliers and customers, may report a suspected breach in confidence to [policy
contact email]. We will not penalize anyone for a report made in good faith.
This policy is owned by Sheryl Morehead, Founder/Owner at Purely Equines and reviewed every 12
months, or sooner if regulations change or a new product line is added.
